2017年、クラプトンの音楽活動50周年を祝うコンサート「A Celebration Of 50 Years Of Music」が、3月と5月に続いて、9月にもまたニューヨークで行なわれることに。その9月7&8日と2日連続公演となった、ニューヨーク、マジソン・スクエア・ガーデンでのライブを、いずれもデジタル・オーディエンス・レコーディングにてコンプリート収録。 まず本タイトルでは録音に使用しているマイクは世界最高峰と云われる「Schoeps MK4」というハイエンド・マイクで、まさに現代デジタル・オーディエンス録音としてのトップクラスによるもの。そしてショーもまず5月のロンドン公演との違いは、キーボードに2010年以来となる、故J.J.ケイルのお抱えだったウォルト・リッチモンドを起用。そしてセットもWhite Roomが2005年のクリーム再結成コンサート以来のセットインとなり、このあたりはクラプトンのこのコンサートに賭ける意気込みが伺い知れるというもの。そして実際にライブ自体素晴らしいもので、ここ20年間で5本の指に入るコンサートだったとファンの間でも賞されており、それはオープニングのSomebody's Knocking終盤の、ソロの切れ具合からして顕著に。さらに両日ともI Shot the Sheriffでの歌心溢れるフレーズ、そして目玉となるWhite Roomでも後半でワウペダルを踏みまくってのソロ・パートは往年のプレイを彷彿とさせるもの。またアンコールには、3月のMSG公演同様、両日ともに盟友ギタリストのジミー・ヴォーンとゲイリー・クラーク・Jr.が飛入りという、50周年記念コンサートにふさわしいパフォーマンスを、最高のクオリティーで。
