衝撃の流出が実現したローリング・ストーンズ『STEEL WHEELS』レコーディング・セッション。各ディスクのメニュー映像はプロモPVから、リハーサル演奏に変更されてます。「ストーンズ・コレクター史に残る大発掘映像です。れにしても今回の映像は本当に凄い。まさかレコーディングの合間を縫って行われた夕食会のようすからしてたっぷり30分も捉えられているという驚き。もちろん『25x5』ドキュメンタリーへの使用が前提での撮影とはいえ、それでもこんなプライベートな場面から始まるというのも相当な衝撃でした。そんなリラックスした場面から一転して真剣なストーンズの「仕事ぶり」を捉えてくれたのは今回の映像における最大の目玉。最初に登場する「Rock And A Hard Place」のレコーディング風景からして、これぞ世界中のマニアが見てみたかったストーンズのレコーディング作業をたっぷりと見られるという衝撃。確かにここでも『25x5』の撮影班が入ってくれていたおかげでレコーディング風景が残されることになった訳ですが、それでもなおカメラを意識しないかのごとく真剣なレコーディングに没頭するストーンズの姿を捉えてくれたのは鳥肌モノ。そしてストーンズ復活の狼煙となった名曲「Mixed Emotions」のレコーディングになるといよいよスタジオの雰囲気は真剣そのもの。一時は解散寸前にまで陥ったストーンズが再びスタジオに集まり、新曲をレコーディングする。何と言ってもあれほどまで険悪になったミックとキースがここでは真剣に向かい合って新曲「Mixed Emotions」を練り上げる姿が映像として捉えられている本映像の価値は計り知れないものがある。時折ロニーやビルも意見を述べ、さらにはマット・クリフォードもアドバイスするものの、あくまで曲を組み立てるのはミックとキース。そんなグリマー・ツインズが作業する様子を捉えてくれた超貴重で世界中が騒然とした流出映像がリリースされます！ Writing Sessions For Rock And A Hard Place & Mixed Emotions Montserrat Air Studio 25th - 27th April 1989 Disc 1(91:40) 1.
