パープル・チックや「BACK TO BASICS」シリーズが収束してしまった現在、彼らに代わってビートルズ、レア音源の整理を精力的に行っているマニアがMaster Jedi。彼は既発音源をまとめる際にピッチ補正以外には小細工することなく、それでいてそれぞれのベスト音源選択に関しては細かく行き届いた目でまとめている点がマニアに評価されています。今回リリースされる「LAST LACQUERS」に関してもそんな彼が昨年リリースしたアイテムの一つ。これに関しては「最後のラッカー盤」というタイトルが示す通り、ビートルズのアセテート音源をまとめたもの。彼らのスタジオ録音別ミックス（RMはリミックス・モノ、RSはリミックス・ステレオの略）やホーム・デモを収めたアセテートの集大成はここ数年でも充実したアイテムがリリースされていますが、Master Jediはベスト・ソースをアナログ・ブートにまで遡ったセレクションがマニアを唸らせてくれます。例えば二枚目に収録された「Across The Universe」のRS3ミックスなどは懐かしのLP「DIG IT」からの収録であり、しかも正確なピッチで収録してくれていることから、オリジナルのLPよりも聞きやすくなっているというのがポイント。これは同じくLPタイトルの「Nothing Is Real」から収録したジョージの「Not Guilty」アセテート・バージョンにも当てはまること。元のLPではピッチの狂いが激しくて聞きづらいものでした。 一方、ここ数年ネット・オークションで登場したアセテート音源の音声もしっかりとまとめられており、昨年遂に登場したシラ・ブラックへのデモ「It’s For You」のポールがピアノで弾き語る断片なども網羅してくれている点が抜かりない。音源が存在する以上は収録されたものの、映画の同期用カウントから始まる「HELP!」各種アセテート音源など、ミックスの違いが解り辛くて聞いていて面白味がないものもいくつかありますが、全体的には三枚組に手際よくまとめられたアセテート・レア音源集として初心者からマニアで楽しめる素晴らしい内容となっています。なおネット上では三つのボリュームの内、フライングして最初の二つだけをまとめてしまったアイテムなどもありますが、もちろん今回は三つのボリュームすべてを網羅したコンプリート・セット。 Disc 1(55:56) 1.
